A Small, But Painful Tumble

What a fantastic day! Miguel has been with me almost all day, Christmas shopping is finished and movies will ensue a little later after the chocolate syrup and ice cream has been bought.
Life could not be better.
Wait, it could. My knee could be in tip top shape instead of being inflamed for over the last 42 hours. The pain could subside, and the skin could quickly grow back.
Folks, don't try gymnastics or super cool climbing moves on your Hubby. Especially when that Hubby moves and you land hard on your left knee.
The pain, the terrible pain! Okay, a bit of an exaggeration, but as I try to walk down the stairs or put my leg in the car, well let's just say I think I have reached my pain tolerance level.
Thank goodness for ibuprofen. It's amazing, along with ice filled baggies.
Hopefully the skin will grow back, and the swelling will completely reduce to nothing.

Other than that, Christmas has been bought, almost wrapped and one left to send. :) I feel very accomplished. It helps to have a strong Hubby to hold your hand and walk slow down the aisles.

Miguel is loving his new job at Kabuki! The people he works with are nice, married and give him compliments on what a nice job he is doing. He can eat all the rice he wants, along with soup and soda. Can't complain much, can he? ;)

Congrats!

Miguel picked up a second job over the break. :) He is working some nights at Kabuki, the Japanese restaurant by our house.
If this job turns out to be better than Fox's Pizza, and if Miguel gets the job on campus that he wants, goodbye late night during the week.

Stylin'

Today was quite the day, and it isn't even over with yet.

Miguel got a hair cut, note the picture, and an interview with a Kabuki, a Japanese restaurant by our house. :)
He goes in for the interview tomorrow! I told him to shave, no worries. ;)

I did not get a hair cut today, but I did drive a very nice, cherry red, 2011 Ford Mustang today. No big deal, right? I had that opportunity due to an Avis First Member needing a ride home. So, from Avis in Logan to his house in Wellsville I went. Great car. Great lookin' girl in that car. :)
I did happen to let Miguel park it for me. It's the least I could do.

We got the Christmas package from mãe and pai. Obrigada! :)
The presents will look great under our cute little Christmas tree from Mom and Dad.

I got my Christmas check today. Well, my paycheck, but it feels like a Christmas check.

Miguel has a super busy day tomorrow at work and an interview. Good thing that's at 10:30 and part one of two shifts starts at 11. Good luck to him tomorrow!

No word on the final grades for his classes, but test results for Biology and Physics have shown up. Fantastic in Biology and decent in Physics. I think they just need better professors up here teaching the Engineering classes.

Anyway, have a good weekend!

Extra Photos

Some photos on my phone from dates, and when we've been lazy around the house. :)

Halloween Shopping

I found some fun photos on my phone when we went Halloween shopping in South Jordan. :)
Enjoy!

One Test Down...

Finals Week. The most dreaded week for a college student. Many of them do their last minute studying and calculate the  lowest score they can get to pass their class. Countless of hours in the library or in study groups cannot save them all, sadly.

Miguel spent quite a bit of time studying for his Calculus final, but I think we both have decided, along with everyone else in the class, that no matter how much studying you do, no one is going to get an A on the final. Mind you, this is his French Calculus professor that he has had to deal with all semester long. This is the professor that tells you to study one thing and puts something else on the test. We are both a little anxious to see what his final score is on the test and in the class. We're hoping it is a passing grade. :)

Today's final is for USU 1350, Biology. This final is later today, so he isn't too worried about studying for it. Miguel does a pretty great job on his biology tests, and from the looks of it, he might just pass this class with a few flying colors. Too bad he doesn't want to go into biology... ;)

Tomorrow's final is Physics. Miguel isn't worried too much for this test. He has had a decent teacher this go around and has a fantastic study buddy, Mitch. Mitch was one of Logan's companions in Mozambique, and we have adopted him as a younger brother, to both of us, for the time being. The two of them have Physics, Physics Lab and Physics Recitation together. They spend a lot of time together. Hopefully the both pass this class and can get into a class together next semester!

Keep Miguel in your prayers, and hopefully he'll pass all three of his tests. I can't believe that our first semester of school as a married couple is already over with! How time flies when you're having fun. :)

Portuguese Club

Everyone has heard of a Spanish Club, French Club or even an ASL Club when it comes to Foreign Languages, but have you heard of a Portuguese Club? I hadn't until just last week when Miguel sent me an email about an activity that was happening 12/08/11 at the Legacy Village Club House asking me if I wanted to go. Knowing quite a few of the members on the committee, I agreed to join Miguel for a night full of fun.

We picked up Mitch from his apartment around 6:45pm and headed over to Legacy Village Apartments. Once we arrived I found a few familiar faces and few new ones, for both of us actually.
Mingling we did with those we knew and those we did not. After 10-15 minutes of socializing, we sat down and started the with some presentations.

Miguel was the first to present about Christmas in Portugal. Thanks to Luis, Miguel was able to give a great presentation about traditional food and activities that happen during Christmas. Of course it wasn't in Portuguese, but it was fun to hear all of them banter back and forth with their Portuguese phrases and words. One day, we are going to spend Christmas in Portugal... I hope. ;)

We had another committee memeber then present to us about Christmas in Brazil. Talk about Americanized Christmas. ;) He served a mission in Brazil, so his Portuguese wasn't "real" Portuguese. ;) Actually, 2 out of the 6 only spoke really Portuguese. Mckay also says he loved it what Miguel would talk to Luis on the phone, because it had been too long since he had heard the sing song version of the beautiful language. His words, trust me.

We had some amazing food while we were there too. :) I can't spell them in Portuguese, I'm not that good yet. But, they were amazing.

I just love the fact that we have a Portuguese community here in Logan. It's the first year that the Portuguese club has been around, so we are expecting some wonderful activities next semester!

Anyone have any ideas on kinds of activities or food to bring up with the committee members?

Social Networking

For the past few weeks or so, I found us constantly on Facebook, more me than Miguel, but that's to be expected. I'd find any excuse to snag my phone and quickly update myself on what was going on in everyone else's lives. Endless "stalking" of other people and their accomplishments, or how their day had been going. Frankly, it became a time consuming monster. This monster plagued my days with, well endless amounts of time wasting.
Not only do I waste a lot of time on Facebook, I find that I'm more apt to a low self-esteem when I see all the "amazing" things people put up on FB. I judge me and my lack of curing world hunger or something or other. Now, I know that people aren't always doing amazing things as their status would say. This is the other side of the monster that Facebook likes to flaunt in the open. I'm talking about the "sad" Facebook posts. The "my life sucks, and I can't seem to find worth in anything that I do." Maybe their life does suck at the moment, but that isn't something I want to deal with anymore.
People say, "just delete those people that are depressing or that you don't like reading what they have to say." Well, that wouldn't do any good. Eventually someone else will pick a far left or far right, which ever they decide is best for them, and the process will start over again.
Facebook has been a great way to keep in touch with family and friends that actually "like" what you have to say on Facebook, or may even comment on your silly photo. It's been wonderful to upload photos for family in Utah, Oregon, California and other places to see how we've been doing. It's easier than blogging, that's for sure. I'll give Facebook back one of it's points that I stole earlier for being a great way to keep in touch.
See where my dilema is at? Keep Facebook to stay in touch better with family members, the "lazy" way, and endure endless hours of nothing? Or delete it all together and find creative ways to stay in touch with those that I want to stay in touch with?
Today, my friends, I have slain my monster. I deactivated Facebook. It's a temporary thing, through the holidays mainly, but if it works out that I prefer my monster slightly medium rare, then I think I'll have that monster cooked. :)
*Also, thanks to everyone that reads our blog. I know it hasn't been that great lately. I admit, I've been a slacker. I can't just blame Facebook for my laziness, but it's a big part of it. Now that Facebook has been deactivated for the time being, the blog will get more of my attention. :)
